Mapping Barcelona
The experience of living in a city as Barcelona is a sincere light-space conception, the city is oriented to the sea, to the port. From the old chaotically constructed city avenues expand, configuring the modern city. The intention of restructuring urban space is to organize and converting the space into a net. To achieve a balance between the concrete constructions and the space that is in – between architecture open areas are incorporated into each block.
This restructuration of space intention is to reconcile architecture and open space. The old city centre is an unformed structure where lines are organic and cannot be traced with a linear onto a map. Its formation is due to fulfil particular needs, in an urgent-way rather than in a logical or conceptual one, it surges out of day-today residents necessities. The contemporary city centre is a multicultural scene, where immigration has taken the place of old city residents. The city centre quarters have been readapted, and the old architecture construction hosts and refuges socially difficult situations.
